Friday Fun ... the best band name for librarians

If you were in a band with a bunch of other librarians, what would you call it? Would you refer to your profession in the title?

Personally, if I were to be in a rock band with fellow librarians, I would go with:

The Dewey Decibel System

If it were an alternative band, I think it would favor:

Mending Potter's Spine

So, let's have a little fun this Friday; what are some great band names you can come up for the profession?

  1. I work in a health sciences library, so I'd have to go with The PubMedliners or The MeSH Browsers (cuz The EMTREE Tools just doesn't have the same ring to it!)

  2. Anonymous1:57 PM

My Guitar Hero band name is The Velmas. Works for an all girl band.

  3. Anonymous3:31 PM

    How about these?
    The Weeding Shelvers
    Data Managers
    Answered Questions

  4. How about a real librarian rock band? The Bearded Naturally. We usually hang out at MLA.

  5. I'd go with Shhhhh!

  6. I like the Dewey Decimators -- or just Decimators for short.

If it was an all girl band I would go with The Info Divas or Info Supremes.

Okay, so I am not that original. I gotta give this some more thought.

  7. MY TOP TEN...
    Tweenie Pop Band: The Lifesavers
    Country/Western: Rocakabibbly
    DIY Punk: Serial Control
    Adult Pop: The Carnegies
    Emo: Moon (for Eric Moon)
    Tweenie Pop Punk: Juvenile Fiction
    Alternative: No Dialog
    Christian Rock: Renew
    Heavy Metal: Spine out
    Pop Metal: Bad Circulation
    Cover Band: The Plastic Covers

  8. Oh, I love Serial Control. I gotta get dh to consider that for his next project if his current band splits up.

  9. The Book Covers (A cover band)
    The Library Police (heavy metal)
The Story Tellers (a folk band)

  10. Anonymous12:57 PM

Oh, it would have to be an acronym! R.E.A.D - Rock, Emo and Dance!

  11. Ooooh, I love Juvenile Fiction--so perfect on so many levels.

My choice would have to be 781.66 RAM, in honor of the greatest band to ever exist.....

  12. Anonymous12:34 PM

    Don't forget:
    Electronica: Bibliotechno
    Hip-Hop/Rap: OPAC Shakur

  13. Of course, all of these acts would be signed to the label "Bib Records"...

  14. Anonymous6:27 PM

    Dewey and the Page Turners
    YA YA
    No Index
    The Paperbacks
    Search Engine
    Lost in the Bookdrop

  15. Anonymous7:25 PM

I Did Not Go to Grad School to Help You Use the Photocopier

(Maybe that would be a better album name, lol!)

  16. Laura @WJ7:31 PM

The WebJunction staff actually participated in a street caroling competition as the Dewey Decibels.

  17. The Hysterical Librarians, of course :)

  18. I'm thinking, especially for vintage library rockers: 'The Bring 'em Backs'. Of course this makes me think of the all-author band 'The Rock Bottom Remainders'. Oooh! I have it: "The Know-it-Alls". Or, still more playing to stereotype: "Hairbun".

  19. Anonymous9:21 AM

A couple of librarian friends of mine had a band in the 1980s called "The 050s." I occasionally sang with them. Post-punk garage band in New Jersey.

  20. I love "I did not go to grad school to help you with the photocopier." That's just brilliant.

But I would probably go with one of my favorite library terms: Subfield Delimiter. It kind of has that weird indie-rock what-the-heck-does-that-mean ring to it.

  21. Anonymous11:01 AM

    Punk: Authority File
    Alternative: Mylar
Christian Rock: Challenge or PABBIS et al
    Heavy Metal: MetaData
Drum and Bass ect: RDF - Radical Dance Faction
so many acronyms, so little time . . .

  22. Anonymous11:12 AM

    What about "The Call Numbers"?
Or is that a bit too risque?

  23. Anonymous11:17 AM

I didn't see this one yet, so I thought I'd add "The Shelveits."

  24. Anonymous12:16 PM

I'm not a musician, but several people here at the Brooklyn Public Library are. Some of them have a band called Lost in the Stacks.

    Susan Levy, Brooklyn, NY

There's already a band out there.

  26. Here's another band that fits: Data Rock

  27. jenjen4:05 PM

  28. laura5:24 PM

These are all great! I'll go with Checked Out

  29. Anonymous7:57 AM

I've always dreamed of being the front man for Marc Tag and the Subfields.

  30. Anonymous9:42 AM

    The Donations

    The Withdrawals

    The Discards

    The Overdues

    The Renewals

    The Laminates

    The Book Supports

    The Shelf Ends

  31. James9:55 AM

Snags for a AAA band, they'd sound a lot like Bright Eyes, I think.

On a related topic, I always wanted our library to join the local softball league. We'd call ourselves The Overdues.

  32. Anonymous9:59 AM

BlöödHag play short heavy metal songs about science fiction and fantasy authors.

  33. Anonymous10:27 AM

I totally forgot The Bookdrops in my post.

  34. Anonymous6:19 PM

    How about the Way Overdues?

  35. Our mythical grad school band was called Dublin Core. Or maybe we'd have spelled it Dublin Corps.

  36. Anonymous9:24 AM

    loose pages...

  37. How about:

    The Bound Periodicals

  38. ISBNettes for my girl group.

    AnnoTation for my metal group.

    Barcode for my electronica.

And I'd love to throw in something with the word "Boolean" in it...

  39. Anonymous1:47 PM

    Of course!
    The Boolean Operators.

  40. Anonymous2:40 PM

As a cataloger, I would have to go with Subfield Delimiters--but a great garage band name--The OverDudes!

  41. I work at an American art museum library, and I give credit to an old colleague who came up with a perfect band name: The ND237s.

  42. Anonymous12:17 PM

    The waived fines

    The MiSsHeLvEd

    Credited with Return Revival

    The Overduebee Brothers???
